“Me? Well, I suppose I’ve always wanted to make up for leaving him there. You told me we were leaving soon - and I asked if he wanted to come with - but he said no and even though it was his choice I still feel bad, like it’s my fault. If I had pushed harder, all the bad things wouldn’t have happened to him…” She trailed off, biting her lip. “His old self - it’s still there. Trapped. I’ve seen it, in his eyes, his actions. And I want to - fix him. Not by submitting myself, necessarily, but by.. being there.” She shook her head, putting her head in her hands. ” - I’m rambling.”
Ah, so that was it. She tilted her head back, viewing the sky as she remembered that day. “If he had run with us, he probably would’ve turned out differently, true. However, he made his decision to stay.” That settled that. There was no changing the past. “Do you truly believe his innocence stays dormant?”
She pursed her lips again, nodding firmly. “Yes. I believe that his old self is buried somewhere, and that, with time, I can unbury it. I want to fix him. He’s giving me the chance to.”
