“The slums you speak of…it is comprised of peasants? Are conditions truly so terrible in the lower part of your kingdom? Your ruler does not seem very keen on making his people happy.” she took a drink of her wine and ordered a servant to pour Aerith some “Why do you continue to stay there? Can you not flee?”
“That’s another thing - Gaia isn’t a kingdom. At least, not in the way that this one is. We have a President, not a king or queen.” She nodded in thanks to the servant and took a sip of the wine - she hardly ever drank, but she figured it to be polite if she did, not wanting to offend anyone by turning it down. “You’re right about one thing, though - Rufus, the President, doesn’t care about making others happy. He cares only for himself and his wealth, and rules with fear.”
The Queen took another drink as Aerith spoke, taking in the information “Why do your people not rise up against his rule? There are many of you, yes? You could overwhelm him, force him to step down. Even if you lose your life, you will have not died in vain. You will have died in the most honorable of ways.”
“It’s been done before, I assure you - I stumbled into it myself. But what started as a rebellion turned into a fight to save our world. And, as I said, he rules with fear. As many of us as there are, not all are brave and he has more forces still. SOLDIER with four different branches, and his own personal band of specialists, the Turks. But if it puts your mind at ease, though our condition is poor, our spirits are content. The President has been scarce since AVALANCHE’s last battle so we’ve been left in.. peace, I guess you could say.”
